  1. A weighted GPA means that Honors and AP classes are worth more towards your GPA than regular classes. So in a school that uses a 4.0 GPA scale and has weighted GPA it means that a regular class A = 4.0, an honors A= 4.5, and an AP A = 5.0. In a school that uses a 4.0 scale on an unweighted GPA means that a regular class A = 4.0, and an A in an Honors or AP class is also a 4.0. The Honors/AP classes are worth the same amount as a regular class. Based on what you said, you have a weighted GPA. Colleges usually look at your unweighted GPA since not all schools use a weighted GPA scale. How to Calculate High School GPA?If you can't figure out your unweighted GPA, take a look at your unofficial transcript to see what grades you have and calculate your GPA without the extra points for Honors/AP classes. Some schools often provide a box on the application next to GPA where you can indicate if your GPA is weighted or not so they can figure it out themselves. The schools will get a copy of your transcript so they'll see whether or not you have any Honors/AP classes. Higher level classes are always a plus with colleges.
